Hello, 1st post here, id like to ask about my gpu.

I have three years old pc with two Gigabyte 970 G1s in sli.

Heres what happend i was playing some game when i heard a loud pop from the case. The pc shuts down and after half a second it rebooted on its own as if nothing happend. Using the sniff method i identified second gpu as the culprit. I smell burned plastic.

I decided to test it on its own and here are the results:

i can boot just fine, i can watch 1080p movie just fine, i can play warcraft 3 just fine (low demand) but when it gets hit with 3dmark it runs a few seconds and then freezes.

Im just curious what can cause this behavior and perhaps if it can be fixed somehow.

i suspect power delivery issue but any ideas ?

If you have the skills, you can take it apart to see where the burned smell originated. Or if you have a warranty, you can check if it is covered before you take it apart.

No warranty, and im sure gonna open it.

Its just what should i look for? mosfets? caps? resistors?

Burned parts will be easy to tell. My guess is one of the RAM chips fried.

Either way, don't use it, that's just asking for more failure, maybe transmitted to the mobo

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.
