Hey guys,

so I've seen the PSU tier list, but it's a bit too much information at once for me. Basically, I'm planning on overclocking a Xeon W3670 on my Rampage 3 extreme while still running my 2 GTX970s and I'm looking for an affordable PSU to power all that. If any of you had recommendations at around $180ish, I'd greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.

180 is a fair amount of money. Was that in Euros or translated to USD?

Anyways, this should do fine. https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/m3HRsY/cooler-master-masterwatt-750w-80-bronze-certified-semi-modular-atx-power-supply-mpx-7501-amaabus

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Why bother with an LGA775 Core 2 based system??

The GPUs seems OKish, but the CPU is totally outdated. Is that a second or third system for dicking around with or is it your main system?

If it is your main system I'd recommend selling one GPU and Board, CPU and Memory.

That should be enough for a decent upgrade wich brings you more than two GPUs...

For mining, you'd consider underclocking and optimizing Performance/Watt anyway, so I'd guess you want to game with it??

And here's the Problem:
SLI doesn't work with many games these days. For example: Wolfenstein II new Colossus or Nier Automata...

Anyway:
be quiet Straight Power 11, 750W

Bitfenix Whisper M, 750W

Or Dark Power Pro P11, though with that I'd prefer the 850W (because different plattform).

the hex core 1366 CPUs when overclocked are damn strong, I get 926 in the multi core CB and games wise I've yet to find anything it chokes on, no point upgrading if it's not needed, and if it doesn't choke up a 1070 I'd say that's strong enough for most

current rig: 10980XE at 5GHz all core 1.35v and 3200MHz cache, evga X299 dark, 128of viper steel blackout (4x32)@3600MHz, gigabyte 6900XT aorus xtremewith WB, 1080mm mora custom loop, corsair HX1500i, 2x256gb 7600P raid 0(boot), 4tb SN850X for games and general storage, strecom test bench, main monitor is a 32" phillips 329M1RV 4K 144hz, and then 3 secondary 1920x1200 60hz panels one left one right and one above, for sound I use a pair of wharfedale diamond 8.1 active with a scarlett 2i4 gen 2, a samson Q2U for mic and a pair of hyperx cloud II wireless for when in VC's and so on

Ah, OK.
I mistook them for the 3300 series.

LGA1366 is still OKish, though a bit inefficient (not that LGA2011 is much better)...

easy enough mistake to make, they are allover the place naming wise, 1366 is still pretty damn strong for the cost of the CPUs tbh, I paid £38 for my X5670 and it's flawless, and sure 2011 is much better, but it is also allot more expensive, i found a cheap one myself so i am moving off to a 3930k and selling on my X58 stuff while the boards are still worth a good lump but you can't count on finding X79 stuff super cheap and X99 is even more expensive

so true, so true...

Yeah, 6 core CPUs are really cheap but the Boards are really expensive.

And some don't really support Westmere much (like the MSI ones)...

I only have a rather shitty L5640...

And my P6T DLX also has some Problems - like not recognizing the middle Memory Channel...

Well, PCIe 3.0 and stuff, but Power Consumption isn't really that much different from the 32nm Westmeres to Sandy-E

Can't tell anything about the (22nm) Ivy-E because I never got one.

yeah, got one of those relatively cheaply some time ago for under 150€.

And that was way before Ryzen.

I got lucky with my X79 Boards - got it from the "B-Ware" Store from an eTailer here in Germany for like 70€ + Shipping (but only Board in a relatively neutral box, with I/O Shield).

Though in hinsight I should have gotten the Big Bang for 2,5 times the Price (200€), brand new...

yeah some boards can have issues with some CPUs but having said that i've never had any issues myself other than heat from the boards :P

yeah, pcie 3 is only really good for storage unless you're using something silly like a titan v or a few titan Xs or what have you, good for the nice NVME pcie SSDs though but not a huge amount other than that from what i've seen

yeah, i paid £160 for my 3930k and P9X79 pro, that should be arriving tomorrow with some luck which is less than i paid for my rampage 3 alone, that will be being sold along with my X5670, the spare X5650 (which i bought just in case i killed the 5670 lul) but then gumtree is great for stuff like that :P

i've had a big bang 2 before, they're brilliant boards but the XLATX is a pain right in the cunninglinguals
