Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of building my first PC soon. I play shooters like PUBG, Rainbow 6, BF1 and some RPG's. Obviously the latter isn't as spec hungry as the former. Ideally I'll be able to play most major releases at 1080p and 60+ FPS on a 144Hz monitor. I'm thinking about the GTX 1070 (using G-Sync), i5 8600K (water-cooled for overclocking), and 16GB DDR4-3200 memory. I have enough computer know-how to handle the rest of the build process, part compatibility, etc. I'm just in the dark on how to make sure I can hit the Hz and FPS I'm looking for. Like I said, I'm only looking for 1080p, no real interest in 4K. Thanks!

While I'm usually biased a bit towards Ryzen, for your level, get a Ryzen 5 1600, best CPU for the price point, also 144Hz on a 1070 might be too much, either lower the Hertz, or get 1070 ti or beyond.

Hey!

I recommend sticking with intel as it performs a lot better in gaming... i5 8600k is the most suitable for your use without spending too much. If you pair it with 1070 you should be easily able to get 60+ fps in titles you mentioned above. There is no need in going for water cooling by the way. You can save some money buying a good performing air cooler which will be quieter and perform similarly(cryorig, dark rock pro). For mb I can recommend the Asrock z370 extreme4 as it is the best value right now especially if you plan to overclock.
