My mom has put me in charge of finding her a new laptop since she is retiring in the next couple of weeks.  She just does emails, browses the web, and says she will store photos and video on it*

She only wants a Windows laptop

13"-14"

a touch screen would be nice

She wants it at $500 or bellow (seems ambitious)

something light

My first thought was finding her a decent $500 laptop that is not a POS will be pretty hard.  Second, while she can get away with something less than an i5 and she doesn't need 8th gen, I think 8GB should be standard since she always has a ton of Chrome tabs open while shopping, plus it future proofs it.  I am a little bewildered when she says she wants enough space to store photos and videos on her laptop since my dad takes care of that with his countless backup drives on his many Macs.  I am guessing 256 is more than enough

So anyone know of any good deal? or can recommend a $500 laptop?

my other thought was giving her my XPS 9560, which I know is 15.6" and way overkill for her but she would be set with 512GB and 16GB of Ram

I also was looking at the new 9560 and can get one with a i5 8th gen, 256GB, 8GB, with a fingerprint reader for $950 shipped w/ taxes from the Dell Outlet "new"

Generally mediocre build quality and battery life. Also OKish input devices.
