Optane or SSD ?

First,

A regular User on a tight budget looking forward to upgrade to i5-8400.

 

Now my budget only allows me to make room for a 32 GB Intel Optane or a 240 GB Standard SSD. My traditional Drive is 1TB 7200 RPM Segate SSHD. What should I go for ?

SSD, no contest.

 

Optane is like a nice-to-have if you've got money left to burn after you've basically maxed out your system (IMO).

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

 

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Absolutely get the 240GB SSD and pair it with your 1TB HDD, extremely good combo, its what my gaming PC used. 32GB optane is pretty much only enough for an OS.

 

Even Linus himself in his videoes admitted he couldn't see a market for the Optane modules at current.

What are you looking to use the drive for? iirc Optane is only good for caching, having the SSD for your boot drive, programs and using your current drive for evrything else would be better imo

get an ssd.   optane is useless

Casual Gaming probably. Mainly for Application Development.
