So I built my first pc the other day and to get it to boot you have to take out the CMOS battery. Then I tried to install windows and the pc just stopped displaying to the screen and shuts down. I think it’s the motherboard but I am not sure can someone help please.

Just making sure.. but you put the CMOS battery back in before booting it back up right?

You're only supposed to take out the CMOS battery for about a minute with the computer shut off then put it back in.

Anyways, we can't help you much without more information.

List your system specs.

Does your motherboard have an LED post code display on it?

If so, what codes is it spitting out?

and go into your reliability history by hitting start and typing reliability history.

Find any errors that happened at the time of the crash, double click on them for more details, and copy/paste what they say here.

Nah, I doubt it's your motherboard.

Most often with new builds that don't work, it's the ram that's the problem so you can try just booting with one stick and try that one stick in each slot. If one slot doesn't work, it's a bad DIMM slot on your motherboard. If all of the slots work, but one stick of ram doesn't work, then it's a bad stick of ram.

Yes I put the cmos battery in after taking it out. My system specs are

an msi b350 gaming pro micro atx motherboard

Ryzen 3 2200g

(1x8)gig crucial 2400mhz memory

a Sandisk 240gig ssd

and a cooler master master watt 550

I got into the bios once but never again after trying to install windows

also I only have one stick of ram but I tried both slots

It does have 4 less that tell what’s wrong but the cpu one is on but it was also on when I got into the bios so I am very confused.

thanks for replying.
