Id recently gained a paperweight of a sigma 17-50 due to water damage which just so happened to be the only standard zoom in my kit so i need to find a replacement. Im currently looking at the 18-35 for its superior build quality and ease of waterproofing since the focus ring doesn't turn when af is used and the zooming is internal. I also do an astounding number of night time event shoots so the fast constant apperture would be magical. I dont really care for optical stabilisation as a faster shutter would be more beneficial since my night subjects are somewhat fast moving. My only concerns are if the oens would get in the way of the popup flash and how able the lens is at taking a battering. Becuase I basically take all styles of photos, some of which require rather sketchy methods.

Are there any other similar options that fit my bill or is the sigma simply the best for my needs?

And no i wont be moving to full frame for many years if not at all because aparrently my 80d is slightly better at dr than the 6d ii so there really is no benefit unless if i got 5d iv which at that point id rather buy a car.

I suck a typing, preparw for typos.

Most of the large name YouTuber's swear by the 18-35 for most of their videos in every day use.

I'd say it's a wonderful pickup (though no personal experience myself)

Yes I've heard but theyre not applying it to a low light event shoot, which I'm finding difficult to locate details about with regards to the performance of the lens. Most the internet reviews are daytime reviews which really dont show the expected ability of the lens.

What camera are you attaching it to? I'd say with it's f/1.8 aperture you'd be fine no matter what.

Shot with an a6500 and according to the description, ISO was kept low at 2-500

No probs. Not necessarily a review, but there's some good looking shots in there.

With proper exposure and ISO control from what I've heard, it'll handle whatever you throw at it

There's also this guy. 5:35 into the video shows off the auto focusing.

Also at the end there's some nice picture shots shown in a night time setting as well

With some lenses when i fire the flash the barrel gets into the way of the light leaving a dark semicircle silhouette in the final image.

thats not something Ive experienced or heard of before and tbh given the prevalence of hate against most pop up flashes, I dont think youd be able to know if that is an issue unless you tried it. But, the 17-50 is itself pretty huge for an APS-C lens, if that was the case when that was extended, its possible that is the case with the 18-35.

Why dont you get a  cheap yongnuo flash instead? its a much better option if you actually need to use flash than the built in.
