well, if i recall correctly CAD programs like SolidWorks benefit more from higher clocked cores than more core count. so i would go for maybe a high clocked Xeon for ECC RAM comaptibility, or otherwise a more consumer friendly solution like maybe a 8700(K).

you should prefer a Quadro card for this aswell. you shouldn;t even need a very high end one, as driver optimization makes aven mid range quadros more then adequate for high end CAD workflows.

maybe this all falls right out of your budget though, how much are you willing to spend?

Thanks for that. I'm hoping to keep it under £1500

Do you need monitor, peripherals, etc. as well or just the pc?

Do you have any specific requirements/preferences? E.g. wifi, small form factor, etc.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

How long is the program?  When I went to school for engineering, I didn't touch a CAD program for a year and a half.  I got by with a basic system and then when I needed a laptop to run CAD in the labs, I bought one then.  My system was middle of the road but blew away everybody that got new systems at the start of school 1.5-2 years ago.  Food for thought.
