2. and any evidence for what 'gpu acceleration' in chrome helps with? if not, ill turn it off

2. Hardware acceleration utilizes specialized hardware for better performance compared to software. It's good when it works but sometimes doesn't work.

It's good for doing cpu things which is important for a computer. https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_processing_unit

It's a pretty old cpu that isn't particularly powerful so it's far from the best for anything.

There are too many things that can be done on a computer and you're going to have to be more specific about what you want to use it for if you want more specific info.
