I’m building a new computer soon.  One of my main focuses is reliability and security of stored data.  I plan a having 2 8TB WD Red drives in a Raid 1 array for file storage.  The Raid array will not be my boot drive.  I want to use BitLocker on my Raid array but I understand I will need a hardware Raid controller card because BitLocker doesn’t work with software Raid.

I will be running Windows 10 Pro on a MSI Z370 PC PRO motherboard (2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots [supports x16/x4 mode], 3 x PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, and 1 x PCI slot).

What Hardware Raid controller card should I purchase that won’t create a real bottle neck and won’t destroy my budget?  Please advise.

You can encrypt storage spaces volumes with bitlocker, so just use that. You ca make a mirror.

And you probably want backups here, not raid, the chance of hdd failure is low and backups are much better at protecting data. Its very unlikely raid will help you in a desktop.
