Was going to look into some basic idle time mining and I'm sure it has been discussed here before, so was looking for some good and current guides.

The current part is important as I have seen it change a lot lately so was wondering what software people use now. Gpu mining was my main interest as my 1080ti have a lot of down time while i work and such..

I'm not a miner, but I am looking into using my 1060, but I don't know if it will be worth the wear and tear, but when I was looking into it I found there are calculators which you tell what gpu you have it will tell you what program and coin you should be mining

i5-8600k, MSI Z370-A Pro, 2x 8GB DDR4-3k, MSI Gaming X 1060, NZXT S340, 2TB HDD, 750w Corsair PSU, AOC 2775 OC'd to 80Hz and CFG73 at 144hz

I know several people have mentioned using software that automatically starts mining as the pc goes idle, but not sure what this might be...

yeah there will be some more ware on the card, but it is rated for that use, just make sure it is cooled properly and it shouldn't degrade that much.

I'm planning to upgrade after 1-2 years so I'm not worried about it.

if you change power target to something low like 60-70% it'll help a toooon with card and fan longevity
