Windows 7 Product key

I have an authentic version of windows 7 HP (Home premium), the product key is loaded into the system. If I change my product key to a windows 7 U (ultimate edition), will it change the OS to windows 7 ultimate? 

 

P.S. Probably a stupid question, I do stuff with servers, hardware and registry tech, product keys and authentication  are more of a mystery to me.

Nope. You can do this if you put in the key in the Windows Anytime Upgrade application, though. Your install will be upgraded to Ultimate once that process finishes.

So if I get a product key for ultimate, put it into the upgrader, it should change the OS from 7HP to 7U?

Correct. I upgraded a laptop from home to pro this way for remote access. Should work fine for Ultimate as well.

I read something about the anytime upgrader being disabled and cut from windows products, can I still use it since win7 is old?

 (Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure that I don't brick my $500 system)

I did this last week. You can't buy upgrade keys anymore, that's about it, but the software still works fine if you put in legit Windows serials.

Ill try when I get home with a product key that I found on https://www.itechgyan.com/windows-7-product-key-2017/ 

(there are 5 different keys, one of them should work)

uuuhhhh why would you use those keys? Big chance they're blacklisted or pirated. I assumed you had a legit key. You might end up with an unactivated copy.

Where would I get a legit one? I mean, as long as the computer works and doesn't have spyware, it should be fine right?

Piracy is illegal on this forum  

 

Legit keys can be bought on eBay for cheap. New keys aren't for sale anymore.

Actually, Ill check the keys right now on microsoft's website, if they are legit, ill let you know.
