Hello everyone, so 1 year ago I upgraded my i3 3240 4gb ram pc with a new rx 470, a 240 gb ssd and an additional stick of ddr3 memory (4gb).

Every game I initially intended to play is currently running smoothly (I expected worse performance).

AAA titles that are considered performance intensive like the witcher 3, gta 5, watch dogs 2 and such are running on 40-55 fps and they look spectacular,

of course some times I need to turn off post processing effects that are cpu intensive to get a higher fps number but everytime I lower settings like texture resolution the fps remains the same.

Now I started playing late 2017 titles like ac:origins (and also bf1 and battlefront 2) and the performance was indecipherable... underwhelming...

I'm going to upgrade my cpu, now should I buy a 8th / 7th generation cpu and upgrade my board (socket) and ram (to ddr4), or buy an older cpu that will

match the current socket in my MB that only supports 3-4 generation intel processors? Should I get an i5 3th/4th generation or an i7 to get 60 fps on ultra? What is

the difference between the i5 4660 and the i5 4660s and 4590 and such?

Thanks, and sorry for poor language

I'd buy a used 3770K if you can overclock on your motherboard, and a 3770 if you can't. I'd also upgrade the RAM if you only have 8GB (you can upgrade to 16GB for pretty cheap).

Quote me to see my reply!

Isn't buying used processors unsafe?

No. Processors are one of the hardest components to break.

Some places (like mine, too near China isnt a good thing) can see many CPU scams, in which sellers sell you broken CPUs rather than much older or slower CPUs through face to face transactions. @donaldtrump In this case, make sure you find and pay a small shop of some sort to test the CPU's functionality and status with a mobo before buying.

Though tbh, in AC:O even my 2600k at its full 4.5GHz overclock can barely reach 1080p 60fps in cities. Not even low graphics settings helped since the GPU stays at 30-50% load. To play this game, a new CPU is pretty much mandatory.

The i7 3770 I just found comes with 3 years warranty (from the store).

Worth it if you are willing to spend that money tho usually they should be cheaper. You can just get a 2600 instead and they are similar performance-lower price

The 2600 can definately do more.... its like similar performance to a i5 7400 , only 10% slower in single threaded according to cpu.userbenchmark.com>i could be wrong

You have to make sure it's genuine first. Some people swap the lid from a real CPU to cover up the fake one, so starting it up is the most reliable way. Unless you can guarantee getting your money back if it's a scam, better give it a test before paying.

Mine definitely didnt do well in AC:O. In fact, I doubt if the 7400 is any good at that game either. Hyperthreading isnt of much use anyway since the CPU usage of all threads stay within 80-90%. Turning hyperthreading off did allow all threads to stay between 98-100%, but the performance is even worse.
