Best Budget SSD???

Go to solution Solved by TechyBen,

I like my 840 evo... even the 740 was an improvement over the 1tb disk I had (7200RPM IIRC).

I got mine "almost new" second hand (one had a couple of hours noted on firmware, the other about 6 months old). But I'd not really recommend it unless you are confident in getting second hand stuff.

I'd personally avoid the Crucial, as they occasionally get bade designs/cheap out on parts. But they might be past that bit of their life. ;)

Others in the forums might have some more info.

PS, the 850 Evo also has a nice feature in the driver of letting you choose between over provisioning (speed + reliability) or use the full drive space (extra GB). As you use it little, you could add some over provisioning and get good reliability and speed out of it. I've no idea if Crucial give you that option?

My laptop has a 1TB 5400 RPM HDD that is seriously slowing down boot times and opening programs like Chrome. I don't require that much storage and 240GB is enough.

The prices for storage in India are crazy and I want to now the best value for money out of these options. I don't require high transfer speeds as I rarely move files around but what about durability??

Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB SATA SSD - INR 5695 around 88 USD

Samsung 860 Evo 250GB SATA 3 SSD - INR 6589 around 102 USD

Crucial MX500 250GB SSD - INR 6390 around 99 USD

WD Green 240GB SATA SSD - INR 5930 around 91 USD

Silicon Power S55 240GB SATA 3 SSD - INR 4900 around 75 USD

Should I just go with the Samsung EVO or can I save money???

Saving $10 isn't that much and the evo and the mx500 for that matter both have better reliability than the rest.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks. I did watch a video or two on over provisioning and it might come in handy. As for second hand stuff. The price of tech gadgets in India second hand is awful. GTX 980's were 800-900$ before the inflation.
