I get really terrible WiFi coverage in half of my house so was thinking of running an Ethernet cable through the walls and adding an access point. Do you have any suggestions of what to get?

I don't really want to pay too much (preferably like £30 to £50) and I'd prefer something that easy to set up. I'm only using the standard sky hub router (i'm in the UK) at the minute so it needs to work with that without much tinkering.

I was looking at this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-WA801ND-Wireless-Access-Point/dp/B004UBU8IE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1521984373&sr=8-4&keywords=access+point&refinements=p_72%3A419153031

Thanks,

Callum

Most routers you can disable all the settings and leave it in access point mode only so its not interfering with DHCP etc..

I was thinking of having the sky router still working and having the access point at the opposite side of the house also working?

They are quite a bit more expensive and it's only really needed for the fire tv stick and browsing the web on my iPad.

I believe he meant purchasing another router. It is an option, but does require router having the option to work in access point mode.

Thanks,

As others have said, if you got a spare router laying around you might be able to use that. As far as the TP Link AP is concerned I have used TP Link routers in the past. They seemed to be solid. That being said, I dont know the specs on your Sky router. Id say if you have a dual band router already it might be wise to look for a dual band AP. Though I know with VAT things are expensive in the UK. If you think a 300 Mbps AP is enough then Id just buy it and give it a go. Because at the end of the day you can pick something better up in the future if you end up needing something better.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I'm hoping that'll be enough. Most things are wired in it's only really the fire tv stick ad when people are using phones and the iPad. I will look for a dual band AC to see if i can find one that's not too expensive
