Hello LTT -

I have recently gotten into video editing using Davinci Resolve. My current rig does it OK.. but even simple images and text moving around the screen causes it to crash. I need some bang for buck recommendations for smooth playback, fast rendering times, effects, etc without spending a lot. Can't be anything new, the market is a joke nowadays...

Current specs -

Intel Pentium G630

8GB RAM

750ti

275GB SSD

thanks :P

U.S. I think it just needs to be a CPU upgrade, maybe an i5 2400 or something like that. Same socket.

Just had a thought. I know this goes against what I said about "nothing new", but how would a Ryzen APU fair in 1080p video editing? I'm curious...

Well what's your motherboard if you plan on upgrading?

A Ryzen 5 2400G would do alright in editing because it's basically an i7 3xxx/4xxx, though you don't need the iGPU part as the 750ti is equal or better in some cases. Though you'd want it for future use or resale.

I'm using an OEM dell motherboard from eBay. 7010 series. Supports anything all the way to the i7 2600, maybe even Ivy Bridge.. I have everything else I need. Probably need more RAM, could chuck in 4 more gigs..

Post a model number or Picture of it, because your VRM is probably crap with no heat sink and you maybe shouldn't actually run a 4 core chip on it. If you do upgrade you want an i7 minimum

I would rather suggest u to upgrade to ryzen 5 1600 instead of ryzen Apu as 2 extra cores will help a lot.  ND pair it with ur existing 750ti
