Change it ASAP, if there is build up or growth your going to have more trouble taking apart the loop and cleaning out the blocks than doing so now.

Earlier this year, I finished building my first custom watercooled rig using the ek a240g. I had ek's cryofuel in it but i drained it and was going to put the primochill vue fluid in, but I found that it does bad things to aluminium. Now I have distilled water and a very diluted amount of the cryofuel concentrate in my loop. Will I be fine with that fluid until I flush it in January next year? I don't see any growth or anything yet.

Build:

Intel Core I7 6700k (clocked to 4.6ghz)

Patriot Viper 3000mhz ddr4

ASUS maximus 8 hero (I hate this mobo)

Evga gtx 1080 superclocked

250GB Samsung 850 evo

2tb WD Black 7200rpm

Ek watercooling kit a240g with 360 expansion pack

Primochill Vue Red fluid

Corsair Graphite 600t (white)

You thought "Gee, Donald Trump sure has a great build!"

If the concentration is too low growth can occur in the loop, your going to want to replace the fluid with the proper concentration for it to be effective.

you could add a silver kill coil as a hold over to help prevent growth until you can get a proper clean. Not ideal, but should do the job.

Edit - SLIVER AND ALUMINUM SHOULD NOT BE MIXED.

Just making sure. Can you use those with aluminum?

you'll probably be fine. you can just put tapwater and change it every month and you won't get growth. also it's written on the product page for the vue that it's not for aluminum it's pretty front and center

Primary System

  • CPU
    Ryzen R6 5700X
  • Motherboard
    MSI B350M mortar arctic
  • RAM
    32GB Corsair RGB 3600MT/s CAS18
  • GPU
    Zotac RTX 3070 OC
  • Case
    kind of a mess
  • Storage
    WD black NVMe SSD 500GB & 1TB samsung Sata ssd & x 1TB WD blue & x 3TB Seagate

Silver and aluminum are a big no-no your going to get galvanic corrosion. While it will be the silver corroding away to nothing it's not going to be good with that occurring in the loop.

i have a little bit of the clear stuff in that comes with the a240g but only a little bit because of the oopsy. Could I just take some fluid out and add a different cryofuel color such as red in without draining the whole loop?

The gpu plugs in the kit sucked! one went in fine but the other was leaking, but very slowly. I put a little bit Teflon tape around it and it is fine.

You won't know the exact concentration doing it that way, your already draining the loop to add more fluid so it wouldn't be any harder to remove the current fluid and replace it.

I was just going to take a giant sarynge and pull some fluid out of the res and put the red in. Whould that be bad. They are both cryofuel fluids.

You can but it just won't be super precise for the proper mix ratio.

Good enough for me. Thanks. The clear and the red will mix good right? That's probably a stupid question.

Yeah the cryofuels can be mixed together if needed.
