FPS Significantly lowers overtime in games.

I will use overwatch as an example. Basically, after about an hour of game play my FPS will throttle significantly (From 300 to 90ish which is stopping me from getting the full potential of my 144hz monitor)

I play on high settings and my CPU and GPU temperates never exceed 40 degrees and 55 degrees respectively

I am not sure if there is a built in heat throttle in my graphics card that is keeping it at 55 degrees or not any help would be appreciated.

Specs:

i7 7700k @ 4.5 Ghz

GTX 1080 STRIX

16GB TridentZ 3000 Mhz ram

Not sure if you are using any third party programs to manage GPU clocks and cooling profiles, but make sure you don't have a temperature limit set super low.

 

If so, your GPU will basically down clock itself to avoid exceeding the defined max temp.
