I recently got a new HDD for my computer since the old one died, I got the new one from a friend who had had it in storage for a while and it works fine, but right off the bat I noticed it was rather slow and could be very loud, it is a bit faster now but it's louder than ever, it is clearly audible above the fans. The sound it makes is a sort of grinding scrape, it is not constant but mainly only when I move large filed or am shutting down and booting up. Should I be worried?

What is actually supposed to go here? Some people put their specs, others put random comments or remarks about themselves or others, and there are a few who put cryptic statements.

Yes. Sounds are usually indicators of how well your hard drive is performing. I’d suggest using a new hard drive and not trying to write anything else to the drive in question.

Probably would be a good idea to run some diagnostics on the drive before relying on it for any important data. We have a free diagnostic software called SeaTools that you can test any drive with.

We recommend running the Long Generic test, it takes awhile but is the only one that tests every sector of the drive (other tests complete faster but choose only some sectors at random for testing).

I ran the long genetic test and it said the drive was fine.
