Wipe Hdd

I'm planning to sell an old laptop and despite needing to format it, I also want to wipe all the data from the Hdd, by rewriting all the data. Any sugestions of a good and free software for this job?

If you're planning on selling your Windows license with your laptop, you're better off resetting Windows and wiping all free space with CCleaner after the reset.

I can do a quick google search (Darik's Boot and Nuke, CCleaner), I can't speak from experience though. I do know that if you want to be really secure, keep the HDD and buy a new one to put in a laptop.

Connect drive as an external removable device,

 

Quick format it.

 

Copy paste Justin biebers baby music video on it until there is no more space left.

 

Quick format it (or not) and it is safe to give away.

I usually wipe it with a format that rewrites the whole drive with zeros to do a decent job of erasing
