Hello I want to overclock my Alienware m17x R4 but I’m not sure if it is possible.

 

if there is a way to overclock the CPU please tell me how I can do it and a step by step procedure 

 

Also I don’t care that overclocking a laptop is bad I just want it to be at least 2.6-3.0Hz because it’s only at 2.4Hz at the moment

You can't overclock it (only those with an X at the back can), though lowering the temps should help. New thermal paste, or even liquid metal should do.

I think the more important information to tell him is that you should never overclock a laptop, they just don't have the cooling power to be overclocked safely.

but yes you need a K series intel CPU to overclock.

nah, laptop chips start out with low clock speed, so with careful voltage control and temperature they can be overclocked quite a bit.

 

 

X chips are the only overclockable laptop CPUs back then because K didnt appear in laptop platforms yet, e.g. i7-3920XM and i7-4940MX. The K sku didnt appear in mobile platform till the 6820HK

god i sure hope you never get a tech job, and X is a mobile K but i thought most people on a tech found would know that. unless this a tech for dummys forum.
