Oh, I didn't see the 212 cooler. You don't need that. 2200G isn't overclocking-friendly (in the sense that there's not much performance to gain). It's not worth it.

Get a bigger SSD, and use the AMD-supplied cooler. Get rid of that thermal paste too, if you want to save a few bucks.

What are you talking about? The Vega portion can be overclocked to perform a lot better than at stock, just by getting a slightly better cooler.

Gains on the CPU side are miserable though. Knock yourself out.

Let him buy a bigger drive with that money, 64GB is ridiculous. He can buy a cooler later, but the drive he'll have to replace.

Don't get the 212 Evo. Smaller and cheaper coolers like the M9a and Pure Rock Slim perform the same. Get one of those.

Don't get extra thermal paste, coolers come with some.

The motherboard is an overpriced piece of trash. Get the Pro4, K4 or Prime Plus instead.

Swap the SSD for a £10 more expensive 250GB SSD lien the MX500.

Swap the HDD for a 1TB 7200RPM 64MB cache HDD.

Consider swapping the PSU to the Pure Power 10 400W or Formula Gold 450W.

:)

Assuming it's for gaming, so while the CPU gains are ~10%, it wouldn't matter if it were more. The GPU gains are significant, which is the reason to get a decent cooler. Besides, he can get decent coolers for £10 less, malign up enough ti get a larger capacity SSD.

He also chose an overpriced SSD. There's decent 250GB SSDs available for £10 more, and 120GB SSDs for less.

:)

I'd skip cooler, gaming k+m, gaming headset, and I'd go straight for a 1050... not dissing the accessories, but ya know. Priorities.

75hz monitor not going to get a lot of those 75 frames with an IGP.

Edit: freesync. AMD graphics card if that's available anywhere.

That might not be legal where you live, it's up to you though. That would make more money for a GPU, but I'm not going to stop people from buying genuine windows.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/skXQV6   is this build ok? are there any better decisions I can make?

I modified your parts list.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/4mrjcY

-Changed CPU cooler to one that performs better for less.

-Removed thermal paste, not needed.

-Changed motherbaoard

-Changed SSD to a cheaper one with higher capacity, you won't notice speed differences in real world tasks.

-Swapped to a faster HDD

-Changed PSU to something that I knew for a fact was reliable.

Other things to note, see if you can get a Windows 10 key from a site like Kinguin or from a friend that has an extra one.

Your monitor is something that will likely be with you a while so this is your choice, you could get a one for better image quality (IPS) for about the same price or get a cheaper standard 1080p monitor. You can still use the one you have and just make sure you add an AMD card. I don't know if the APUs support FreeSync but I would be very surprised if they didn't.

Peripherals are subjective from person to person. I would look at possibly getting a cheaper keyboard mouse combo even if it's membrane. I personally dislike mechanical and opted for a cheap one instead. It has lasted me just fine and only cost me $20 for the mouse and keyboard (the mouse did die a year ago but managed to last 4 years). You could also try looking into a cheap headset for the short run and upgrading later.

Intel Xeon 1650 V0 (4.4GHz @1.4V), ASRock X79 Extreme6, 32GB of HyperX 1866, Sapphire Nitro+ 5700XT, Silverstone Redline (black) RL05BB-W, Crucial MX500 500GB SSD, TeamGroup GX2 512GB SSD, WD AV-25 1TB 2.5" HDD with generic Chinese 120GB SSD as cache, x2 Seagate 2TB SSHD(RAID 0) with generic Chinese 240GB SSD as cache, SeaSonic Focus Plus Gold 850, x2 Acer H236HL, Acer V277U be quiet!
