Frame drops, but high FPS

Go to solution Solved by johnukguy,

If your CPU and GPU are both at 100%, then that is bottlenecking by definition, but that doesn't sound like the main issue here. I would suggest uninstalling, or at least stopping AI Suite from loading and set your BIOS to optimized defaults and see if that helps. Also, run chkdsk, system file checker and a decent anti virus (anything except Windows Defender, Norton or McAfee pretty much). If your PC is fixed, then I'd suggest that you overclock in the BIOS rather than through software, as it's often less prone to such issues.

Hello,

A few days ago my pc started acting weird, i never got any frame drops in games but now it started to do so.
I first noticed it in AC Origins, my fps is always around 70 and i never had any problems. But now i get frame drops in origins, but also in benchmarks.
My CPU and GPU are always 100% in use during games so there isn't any bottlenecking.

I dont know if this has to do something with it but i also think my memory controller is broken, because i was going to try some auto oc in AI Suite 3 and i needed to reboot my pc for the installation to finish and then it stopped booting.
When it booted the fans started spinning for around 3 sec and then it turned off. It repeated this endlessly. I figuered out it had to do something with my RAM and switched RAM sticks, that worked but if i tried my RAM sticks in another pc it also worked. Then i switched my RAM back and it worked. Then after another boot if had the same problem again, i have 2 sticks so i switched lanes and that is working for now.

My speqs are attached.

Also sorry for my bad english, it's not my native tongue.

Oooh oops, The first thing i did when my pc would boot was uninstalling AI Suite 3 ;) I've also already resetted my bios.

Ok thank you for your help i will do the other things you recommended.

So i did everything you said, chkdsk gave nothing, system file checker did his thing (dont know if it did something) but i download a trial of mcafee total protection and it found 15 threats. I also found a virus myself because there was a process eating up 30% of my CPU o.O. And now in origins i get tiny framedrops but totally playable and way better then before. Thank you sir.

It's not a bottleneck. Absolutely not.

A gtx 1080 won't bottleneck an i7 4790k so it can certainly handle a 970.

Ignore comments about bottlenecks.

You can't ask a question in any forum without people assuming that if you're not using the newest hardware.

Anyways, AI suite III and pretty much any other Asus software on 1150 socket boards is broken as hell right now.

Game First III will even cause you BSOD's right now..

Asus's hardware is awesome, but their software leaves a lot to be desired.

Even their AURA led control software is buggy right now for god sakes not to mention GPU Tweak II.

Uninstall every utility that's not a requirement and also get rid of geforce experience if you have it.

Then wipe your video card driver with DDU in safemode and install the newest version of it from the Nvidia site not the Asus site.

I have the same CPU in one of my builds and a 970 paired with an i5 4690k in another.

The i7 4790k is in an Asus Maximus Hero VII so yea.. I've experienced all of the problems myself so I can confirm that johnukguy is right about AI suite.

Sorry for the late reply, it was a mining virus. (Oops)
