Currently I'm running on a system that I built back in 2015 and felt that its past due for an upgrade. Currently it runs most games fine at 1080p if I turn down the graphics to medium, some games I can run on high if I turn certain textures to low. Being 2018 I want that 1080p high settings gaming. However, with the current surge in gpu pricing I am asking myself if i should scrap my new build and put all my money into a decent graphics card, as well as upgrading my ram to 16GB.

Here is a List of my Current specs for reference,

- Intel Core i5-3570K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155

-ASUS GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5

-Asus P8Z77-V LK Intel Z77 DDR3 LGA 1155 Motherboard

-CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

-Corsair CX Series, CX600, 600 Watt (600W) Power Supply

-Cooler Master Hyper N520 - CPU Cooler

-Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5-Inch SATA III

- Seagate 1TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch

I think you should get a new CPU (8th gen) and a new graphics card (1060 6gb)

any recommendations as to the motherboard? I already have my sites on the i5 8600k and the ASUS ROG Strix Z370-E Gaming LGA 1151

that, is cutting into 1440p 144Hz gaming territory. For games only, a 3770k will do. Might as well spend more on the graphics card.

Buy a used gtx 970, it's a great card (I have one) and you can play most AAA titles at max settings at 1080p with 60fps.

+1 also if you are looking for a good 960-980 get evga ftw or ssc the base clocks will help you get a higher overclock so if you want to keep textures on medium and the rest on high you can

Not with a gtx 760, just enough for 1080p.

IF you play alot of games that can make use of more than 4 cores, then buy a i7 3770k and stick it into ur current board.

Buy a new GPU, a 1060 is current ur best bang for buck, but as u said gpu prices suck atm so how high up the GPu tier list u go is up to you.

Do NOT by a new current gen CPU, ull need to buy a new mothebroard AND DDR4 ram. A OC'd Ivybridge CPU like ur 3570k or a i7 3770k can easily match current gen CPU's.
