Hey guys, I finally got around to building today. I'm a first time builder but I know what I'm doing. I was having a bit of trouble mounting the motherboard and I touched it a few times when putting screws in the mounts. I'm also having a nightmare with the 24 pin and I don't know if I'm touching the case enough. Amazon haven't delivered the CPU yet so I can't even see if everything is ok. Sorry for the sloppy post but just wanted to know if touching the mobo can damage it?

Why would you think touching the mobo can damage it? I mean you did say you knew what you were doing and all...

But seriously unless you are ripping capacitors out or bending pins inside the socket you cant do a whole lot of damage other than static damage which is mildly uncommon anyway.

as long as you didnt scratched the motherboard in anyway you should be ok. did you managed to bend any pins or knock out any electrical component or IC?

anyway i dont think you can break the motherboard by just touching it. but lets just wait and see until you get your CPU

@Whos_Dan

Hey,

Nah, it should be fine. As long as you properly grounded yourself before handling the components and no power was running through the board, it will be fine.

Relax and don't panic. Just don't jab a screwdriver into the pcb. That would be bad.

Well only if you have a bunch of static on you. And touching case will probably just transfer the shock to rest of your components anyway which happen to be touching parts of the case.

it if you are staticly charged you can damage your mobo, not by just touching it...

You should have waited to build the thing until you had all of the parts.

Here is the order of which the parts go in:

Case is the start.

PSU goes in.

Now let's move to the motherboard *DO NOT PUT IN CASE, JUST PUT ON TOP OF BARE MOTHERBOARD BOX*

CPU

RAM

Motherboard goes in case now. *SCREW IT IN*

CPU Cooler

Hard Drives

SSDs

all power cables routed and plugged in

Graphics card

PCIe cables plugged in

DONE

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 500GB Crucial P3 Plus, 4TB Silicon Power UD90 | GPU: AsRock Radeon RX 9070 XT Steel Legend | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! I meant to say I thought I knew what I was doing, but I just don't want to ruin my first build. I have been waiting 2 weeks for Amazon to deliver the CPU and I finally got time to build tonight.

Thanks for the help guys, I may just close this thread, I seem to have angered a few people...

None of us are angry. Most of us are just sort of all chuckling a bit on the inside and trying to give advice without pulling too many jokes.
