Yo

So yeah, my plan is this. I render alot of 2k footage on my PC, don't have the ability to have another PC at this moment, and I render a lot whilst gaming.

This lowers my FPS so bad that I sometimes GO UNDER 60 FPS! I know, right?

Solution I have is this, I put in a second GPU dedicated to rendering.

Problem I have is that I have 0 experience with multiGPU setups.

I'm not gonna run them in SLI, and it's not going to be the same GPU. Currently I have a GTX 1070 GAMING X (8gb) in, and the plan is to throw in a GTX 970 that I had lying around.

Question I have is, is there any common issues related to this kind of setup? Anything I need to look out for and take extra care of?

Just be sure to have you monitor plugged into the gpu you want to use for gaming then make sure the rendering program you use is only using the 970, this will be in settings somewhere, then you should be good to go

Yeah more gpu's isn't going to fix that. Even if you offload the rendering to another gpu your cpu/ram/drives STILL help with this render and are being used somewhat. With the computer busy trying to render something you're not going to get perfect gameplay all the time unless you purposely set the machine to use very little resources during the render.

Yeah, that I understand, perfect gameplay won't be possible until I get my second setup here. But my PC feels like it's right on the edge between smooth frames and missed out frames. Since I mostly play Rainbow Six Siege, those frames can save my ass lol

It's just to help out as much as possible with the load, cuz right now, whilst rendering + gaming at 2k ultra settings, my CPU and RAM are sitting at around 60-70% usually, but my GPU is 100% a lot of the time.

Yeah, I have a seperate monitor for the other GPU so that should be no issues at all

Prolly best to not render and game at the same time. Or get a $1000 cpu.
