Changed my laptop CPU

Go to solution Solved by showerhandle,

this is one solution you can try
Open run
type msconfig
go to the boot tab
then select advanced options
then there was a check mark to select number of processors
there is a setting to limit number of processors if this is checked uncheck it
restart and you should be good
and done

check this first this is one solution for some people but not always the case

Had an i7-2670QM lying around and decided to replace my old samsung laptop celeron cpu with it.

I replaced it and booted and checked cpu-z and it says I have 1 core and 1 thread.

The 2670QM should have 4 cores 8 threads.

Whats the problem here did I install the cpu in a wrong way or something?

Does one of the other variants of the same laptop use this CPU? There could be BIOS issues in which it fails to detect the CPU.

It's not reliable to switch laptop cpus. It's likely an issue in the bios. What does it recognize the CPU as? Are there other versions of this laptop that came with this CPU?

CPU: Ryzen 1700@3.9ghz; GPU: EVGA 560 Ti 1gb; RAM: 16gb 2x8 Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000; PCPP: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b3xzzM

the check mark was checked and even though it was selected at 2 cores

only 1 core in the list, I'll uncheck it and restart to see if it does anything
