A bit of a strange issue, but my 980 Ti keeps crashing with a blackscreen on anything video game related. Unigine Heaven, Furmark, and any game will blackscreen crash within 1-3 seconds. Regular desktop use is fine. V-Ray CUDA rendering at 100% load is fine. No artifacting at all.

I have:

Returned the card back to stock clocks

DDU the driver and installed the latest driver

DDU the new driver and rolled back a few drivers

Swapped the 980 Ti out for my brother's 1060 6GB (The 1060 6GB runs completely fine as expected)

Changed the thermal paste (Had already changed it before, but just did it anyway). Temps were the same before / after thermal paste swap, below 82C

I don't understand why the 980 Ti would be completely fine rendering on V-Ray but crash on anything video game related.

It started last week but I haven't had time to troubleshoot until recently due to midterms. If it's dead, sure picked a pretty bad time to die (Also don't know if it's under warranty either since I bought it used from ebay two years ago)

sorry no one replied, normally i wouldn't on this but me being a frequent ebay user, i oughta give it a shot,

message the ebay user if you can to see how long or if their is a warranty

try and sell it for parts and with the salvage get a 1050 or 750 ti for the time being

try and bring it to a repair shop and see if they can fix it

hope this helps <3

-snip-

It just clicked that I bought it used from amazon back in summer 2016. Eh, I'll ask the seller anyway.

But yeah, I would just keep the GPU instead of trying to sell it for parts. I mean it still renders fine (The primary job of it).

It could be the card not being able to keep the full 3d clocks while gaming. It may be starved for power, who knows.

Try knocking down a few MHz in VRAM and Core if possible, and try again. (Increasing voltage and power target may help too).

I had a client with a Zotac 770 gigahertz that could not keep up boosting past 1000Mhz i had to set it to 900Mhz so it wouldnt crash.

Hmm, will try playing with underclocking and see what happens. I kept the voltage and power target maxed out as I normally do (no real reason not to)

Though I contacted the seller and he's given me the original receipt of purchase / the card is still under warranty so I will probably RMA it (Though a bit scared after seeing horror stories about Gigabyte's RMA service)

For what its worth, I've repasted before and found my GPU was blackscreening suddenly, I had cleaned & redone the process and it started working.

Maybe a small leakage outside of the usual corespace has bridged a connection causing this weird behavior?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
