Hey guys, so I'm a streamer and I've been trying to get by with this $12 Wifi card but it's not really an ideal solution. So what's a good Wifi solution to pick up? Before someone says "get a 100 foot ethernet cable and run it anywhere you need" I live with 3 siblings, my dad and his girlfriend so I can't run a ridiculously long cable from the living room downstairs to my bed room upstairs and down a hall

What's the age of the house? Have you looked into powerline?

What's your budget for a new wifi card?

What's the current model router you have?

The house is actually pretty new, its like less then 5 years or something. I'm not quite sure about powerline adapters cuz I have 5 people in the house and Idk what the interference would be. Not sure the budget for it cuz I want it to not cost too much but I want it to be good so if you know good options for different price ranges that would be amazing. Idk what the model is rn cuz I'm not home but I can check later tonight.

So long as the wiring quality is good, you aren't too far between outlets (like 100 to 200+ feet) and aren't using a power strip on the powerline adapter itself or anything then you'll probably be alright. The noise would come in mostly if there were a lot of powerline adapters going at once.

If you can let me know the model when you get a chance I'll see about some decent wireless cards as well that will work and won't be overkill :)

*You can use a power strip on the same set of plugs with powerline, just can't use the powerline off a power strip itself.

Either of these should be great:

or if you want to be safe for the future should you upgrade the router:

Ok thanks, btw I know this is probably a really stupid question but if I upgrade the router it can up the speed without change in internet plan/provider?

If your only option is wifi.. then I would personally upgrade to a much nicer router with AC capabilities, mimo, and beaming. Then you will want to pickup a nice AC card that also supports those features. This would give you the best performance and would help keep ping times down as devices increase on the wireless network.

If this is a new home and you own it.. you might just have someone run the wire for you. My home isn't exactly new, but I have purchased my own RJ45 outlets and then run cat6 cable to the rooms I need it. In my lab i just have an actual cable running from the wall in to a big 10gbe switch which then covers all the devices in there.

I mean depending on what you are going to spend... it might be a decent idea to consult with an electrician or low volt specialist and see what they would quote you for pricing on just running a hard line.

What router would you recommend? Also I definitely can't do hard line wiring because ever though it's a relatively new house, I'm still 15 and my dad probably wouldn't allow it.
