Hi,
I have a asus laptop with windows 7 and ubuntu.
Eveything works fine, except when I try to turn off the laptop using the windows or ubuntu button, the screen goes black, but the cpu fan and the power led keeps working.
I have to hold the power button 5 seconds to shut down the laptop.

I have the same issue on safe mode or even on a live dvd.

Try updating the BIOS/UEFI, it may solve your problem. Search your computer manufacturers website for the exact model of your computer and download the BIOS/UEFI update from there and install it (follow instructions).

Hope this helps. :)
