Trying to get everything I need for some light gaming and other miscellaneous tasks for around $600. This is my first desktop, so I'm starting from scratch. I threw together a build on PC Partpicker:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qWd3Cb

Build:

Ryzen 2400g

MSI B350 PC Mate

2x4gb 3200mhz RAM

NZXT s340

EVGA BT 450w

Redragon s101 wired keyboard/mouse combo

Acer G22 21.5" IPS

WD blue 1tb hd

I have no experience with this, so any advice would be appreciated.

1. Budget & Location

I can spend around $600 USD, though I'd prefer to spend less.

2. Aim

The most intense thing I'll be doing is some light gaming. Stuff like World of Tanks, Fortnite, etc. From what I've found on YouTube, either of the Ryzen 2000 iGPU's will run these.

Since this is my first build, I'd prefer something relatively easy to put together. Upgradability is also important, which is why I'm not buying an old workstation and tossing in a GPU.

3. Monitors

I need a monitor. I'm looking at the Acer G22 on Amazon, which is a 1080p IPS for $100.

4. Peripherals

I don't need a new keyboard and mouse, though they would be nice. The keyboard I have lying around came with an old prebuilt and has a PS/2 connector. I also need a copy of Windows. I've seen some shady OEM keys for sale on eBay for only $10, but I don't know if those work properly. I'd really prefer to avoid spending 1/6th of my budget on OS.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I need a desktop.

Edit: forgot storage

Solid build, but just a heads up, unless you have another system to download an updated BIOS file to put onto a USB and flash you'll probably need to get the boot kit from AMD, which is where they send you a CPU to get the BIOS updated to support the new Ryzen G series APU's.

Change the PSU to one that isn't crap. The CX450/550/M is usually the cheapest decent PSU in the US. The Masterwatt 550W, which currently goes for $47 after rebate, should also be a decent choice.

Consider switching the case to the G21.

Get a bigger monitor if possible.

You can just use Windows unactivated.

Instead of a HDD, consider getting a 250GB SSD instead. A HDD can just be added later, but if you decide to move windows from to another drive, it can be a pita.

:)

Yeah, read about that. AMD's site says that you need to provide a reason why the ODM support didn't work before they send you a boot kit. Do I have to contact MSI for an updated board then?

It turns out the CX450 has a $20 rebate so it's only $25 at the moment, so I'll definitely be going with that. The G21 or a bigger monitor would put me over budget, and the only SSDs I can afford are the 120GB ones, which will probably be enough until I can save another fifty for a larger HD. I could also stick with my crappy keyboard and mouse and upgrade the monitor to 23.8".

You should be okay with just going directly to AMD and saying that MSI couldn't help you out. GamersNexus did a video on it and that's what they did. They just provided an invoice of the CPU, a photo and the serial number. Their boot kit was approved without them having to prove they spoke with the motherboard manufacturer.

Thanks. Would much rather wait for AMD to ship something to me than wait for MSI to receive the board and send it back.
