Need SAS HBA

I have a Norco RPC-4224 and need a way to connect all 24 possible drives with the 6 SAS 8087 connectors but not use more than 8 PCIE lanes. I'm using 4TB drives with it.

What's your budget? 24-port capable controllers aren't that common on the cheap side of eBay. You're looking at $300-700 for something slightly decent. Some might need flashing to IT-mode. Also, does your backplane use the older SFF-8087 connector or the newer SFF-8643 connectors?

That's an expander. You need a RAID card with say 2 miniSAS ports and connect those to the inputs on the expander, and then connect the 6 other ports to the backplane. You need two cards in total.

Gotcha. SFF-8087. 

 

My first link was the cheapest option I found on eBay. New will be much more expensive. The LSI 9280-24i4e seems the most common card that fits your spec and does everything on a single card.

Well the cards will work great on a x8 pcie slot, if that's what you mean. So how many slots available do you have?
