Faulty cards

So, I bought a Gigabyte 2gb GTX 1050 OC off Amazon, spent hours trying to figure out why it wouldn't register as an NVidia card. Turns out this card doesn't have the 6 pin power connector on the board like it's supposed to. Anyone know where I can get one?

What? The 1050 doesn't need 6pin power. Are you trying to register a different card?

Some GTX 1050 have an extra power connector, while others don't.

The nVidia spec'ed GTX 1050 does not have any PCI-E connections.

 

Board partners could design a custom PCB, and put a PCI-E connection there...to provide more power for higher overclocks.

In many situations, the PCB design is used across different models -- an "OC" or "Aorus" version will have the connector, while the regular won't.

 

EDIT:

Looks like some of Gigabyte's GTX 1050 and GTX 1050Ti share the same PCB.

Some of Gigabyte's GTX 1050Ti's have an extra PCI-E 6-pin connector.

 

Also, did you install any nVidia drivers yet?

Its just a 1050, it doesnt need 6 pin power, its only a 75w card.

Are you putting it in something that cant put 75w through the pcie slot? Old prebuilt office PC's?

Oh yeah also...

Make sure you connect your monitor cable to the BACK OF THE GTX 1050. NOT the back of your motherboard.

Otherwise, you are not using your GTX 1050, but the iGPU on your CPU.

I have an HDMI running from the card to a monitor, but it's showing the card as Microsoft Display Adapter instead of GTX 1050.

I tried and when it was checking compatibility it didn't recognize anything.

Turn the computer off.

Re-seat the card (e.g. take it out of the PCI-E slot, and install it back in).

Make sure the card is in the slot all the way, and screwed into the computer case.

A bad connection will sometimes cause this issue (e.g. card is semi-connected).

 

Check the power supply cables going to your motherboard as well...since the GTX 1050 is getting it's power from the motherboard's PCI-E X16 slot.

Make sure those cables are not loose, or not in all the way (e.g. the big 24-pin cable).

This is what it does when I try the drivers. I've seated the GPU properly and tried the drivers. Is it possible that my motherboard and GPU both being from Gigabyte are causing it to show up differently?

Motherboard and graphics card brand should not matter.

The graphics card drivers doesn't care what the brands are -- as long as the GPU chip is nVidia it works.

 

The drivers don't recognize your version of Windows...

• What version of Windows are you using?
• Is your version of Windows up-to-date?
• Have you installed any of your motherboard / chipset drivers yet?

 

Some of the newer drivers require you to update Windows to a later version first (e.g. 1607 or 1703, etc).

I didn't know I needed those drivers. That would help make more sense of it.

Gigabyte told me that certain versions of Windows aren't supported, which doesn't make much sense to me. But here is that information.

Like I said,if you used an older Windows 10 install image, then it will be an older version of Windows 10 from the get-go.

Windows 10 has different versions... like how it used to be Service Pack 1/2/3 ... and how Apple is Mac OS X 10.1.5, 10.12.10, 10.13, etc.

 

The Build 10240 is version 1507.

This was the FIRST "stable" Windows 10 release version from 2015.

THIS may be why the drivers are getting angry at you.

 

When I run DirectX Diagnostic Tool (BTW, not a very useful tool), it shows Build 16299.

Build 16299 is version Windows 10 version 1709.

 

If you go to Settings > System > About, it will show you the Windows 10 version you have.

Basically, let Windows 10 do it's thing, and download and install all those Windows Updates being crammed through your internet connection.

To everyone who posted, thank you. I finally got it to work. My windows was being stubborn. Telling me it updated and then not updating.

It finally updated and I have been enjoying my setup since.
