Hello! I just upgraded my FX-8320E system to Ryzen, but still have the case, cpu, and all that fun stuff. I was wondering if I tossed two or three 2TB WD Red NAS drives, if it would make an alright NAS server to store mainly media files on, and if it would work, what a good, cheap (or free) server OS would be to make it work fine!

If you could please let me know, that'd be great.

Just now, Electronics Wizardy said:

Yep it will work fine as a nas.

One thing to note is the fx chips idle at about 60w min, where something like a g4560 idles at about 20w.

For os, id probably go freenas depending what exactly you want to do.

Would it be beneficial then to try and disable some of those cores and get that idle down?
