Will HDMI to Display port work with a 1080p 144hz g sync monitor?

collinfrags

Hi I am Collin. I have an Acer Predator Helios 300 and I am in need of a monitor with 1080p 144hz and g sync. I found the Acer Predator XB241H. I only have HDMI on laptop. Can I use an active HDMI to Display Port and get 1080p 144hz and g sync. I am fine with 120hz if it’s all it can do I am just worried about g sync. Here is the adapter I will buy. As far as I know, HDMI can only support up to 120hz. Also, g-sync is only supported by DP to DP.

USB-C to DisplayPort is what you are looking for.

USB-C generally has a native DP connection, you just need something to adapt it to a DP plug.

Nevermind.  Looks like you will be stuck at 60hz.  Do not buy an expensive monitor for that laptop.

I have the same issue with a Lenovo Y520.  The GPU is not directly connected to any outputs, all output is handled by the Intel integrated graphics.

This is particularly terrible for VR.
