Hi, I am enquiring about getting a new monitor. I saved up and would really like to get the 34" curved Asus Rog Swift. Now my only problem is my graphics card. I am wondering should I replace it, overclock it or completely look into a new monitor.

I mainly use my monitors for photo and video editing, but I also love playing games such as fortnite, H1Z1(RIP), CS:GO, GTA5 and other shooter games. Now I understand I wouldn't be able to run these games at the full 4k resolution, I am curious as to what I could get away with gaming. Such as could I get 120-144hz playing in 1080p. Or could I go beyond that? Also, would this monitor benefit me in any way with my photo editing? I know it is a 4k monitor, but would that actually be worth the $1,200USD I am going to spend on it. I've put a few links to some gyazo screenshots at the bottom of my computer specs. Please give me your honest opinion and don't worry about being to frank. I would love some knowledge about my PC and its components. Also if you need any more info on my PC please let me know and I'll gather it.

Thanks

 -Barry

It is an IPS panel so the color accuracy will be pretty good. However, if you need absolutely perfect colors for your work I would suggest you not use it for working on. The screen real-estate is very very nice when editing. In order to get the best out of that monitor you are going to need a new GPU. I would suggest a 1060 minimum with literally no maximum. You are going to need every drop of performance you can get to drive 4K 100HZ assuming you want max settings. I would recommend a 1070-1070 Ti for a mostly compromise free experience.

The GPU you have currently should do 1080p 144HZ fine and I have managed to do up to 1440p 144HZ with an equivalent GPU in CS:GO without any frame dips.

Assuming one can be found at a decent price, or at all...

I personally would probably go the used 980Ti route if I was to get this monitor and upgrade the GPU.

I've given up recommending the 980Ti. The prices are horrible on the 900s in my area even if you can find one. Somehow the 10 series is cheaper for equal performance . . .

However, if you can get one at a good price that card is perfect. Good idea I wasn't even thinking of that!

Depends on what your area is like, I usually see GTX 970s and 980s for 150-200 USD, and a Titan Xp(2016) for 750....

The Titan for $750 is one of the best deals I've ever seen, it still bugs me that I couldn't grab it....

Anyway we're getting off track here.

@barryseal: I would recommend checking your local Craigslist listings for used GPUs and seeing what deals come up.

One question I have to ask is if you need 100% scaling, or if you just want 3440x1440.

If $1200 is around the budget you're willing to spend, I'd argue a combination of a 27" 144Hz monitor and a Dell P2715Q. One would be your play monitor, the other your work monitor. The only problem with the P2715Q is that it's a 27" 4K display, so unless you like small UI elements, you need to have UI scaling.

Thank for the feedback, But I I really want 1 curved monitor. I already have 2 24" 1ms 60hz asus' and 2 27" 1ms 60hz. How hard would it be to sell these?

Also, I just want to play fornicate at 1080p or 1440 at 120-144hz. Could that be possible?
