What should I upgrade?

I want to upgrade my system to get better performance for newer titles such as Kingdom Come Deliverance. The issue though is I'm not sure if I need to upgrade my CPU or my GPU primarily. I know both COULD be upgraded, but I'm not sure if both are required.

 

My current SPECs:

Nvidia GTX 980 EVGA Supercocked

Intel I5 4590

16GB DDR3 RAM(2x8)

Samsung EVO SSD

ASUS 1440p Monitor

 

I'm not sure If I will benefit much from upgrading to say a I5 8600k with DDR4 or If I'm better off just investing in a new GPU. Will I lose out if I don't upgrade my CPU soon? Or should I just upgrade them both as I can afford? I can't afford to upgrade both right now so I'd need to pick one and then do the other later.

Well going by your gpu that should run games fine a 1080 p whats your cpu

Yeah you should upgrade your cpu, either ryzen or an i5 8xxx

I'd hold out on GPU because either prices will drop on pascal or you could buy a new ampere card.

 

EDIT or get a new cpu and get 8gbs of DDR4 and get more later

If you are set on upgrading then I would also try to get a newer processor, possibly even an i7 if you have the budget for it.

 

If you can wait for a while and save money w/o upgrading yet, do that.
