Long displaycable run

cybersnik

Does anyone know of a good solution for doing long display port cable runs?

The cables would have to be at least 25m and be capable of Displayport 1.2 or higher.

I tried with an active HDMI cable. It works fine with 1080p @60Hz. And while this is fine short term, the screens will most likely be upgraded to 2160p @60Hz in the next 6-18 months.

I would like to avoid having to buy 12x 25m heavy duty active HDMI only to have replace them in less than two years.

All the repeaters and Ethernet converter boxes i have looked at top out 2160p @30Hz for 25m runs.

As far as i can tell my only option is to go with a fiber optic DP 1.2+.

The one i found that has the least insane price is this one:

498USD per cable is expensive but it seams to be my best option.

Any insights into a possible solution would be appreciated.

Am i missing an easier solution?

If you can solder you could splice two cables together but you have to be careful as dp is a differential pair. You could also use this

To splice two together, but both of these might result in signal degradation at long lengths i really dont know if it would

What the hell are you doing that you need 12 of these at 25m? wouldn't it be just easier and cheaper to move the server?

the longest cable length officially supported  for display port, is 3m longer is possible but you would get resolution issues at longer lengths most likely.I very much doubt you will get 25 meters worth of Display Port cable work effectively at that legnth, when its officially supported to only 3metres compared to 10 meters @ 4k for HDMI.

I personally wouldnt try it. Im going to assume this is for a Gaming Cafe of some kind and you want to keep all the desktops in one place and the monitors in another, personally, id invest in lock boxes for the desktops closer to the displays themselves. (like every other PC Gaming room ive seen set up at cafes and stuff in the past)
