What are your thoughts regarding this topic?

My PC will be paid off soon, and I am tempted to invest in the Oculus Rift (I really like the headset and controllers way more than the Vive).

However, I am not sure if I should just hold off, as anything new on the horizon may make it obsolete.

Thanks!

The Vive Pro is probably what you want to buy into

Could also just sell the RX 580 for like $300 + while you can

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I guess it means I should wait, lol.

If I sell my RX 580, then I won't be able to play anything!

Well if you end up getting $400 for it you just end up with a lowly GT 1030 tier GPU

Or hell if you're feeling crazy sell your entire system and just get a basic APU at like $400. Probably keeping your RAM though.

wait and get the Vive Pro, and save up, because you'll need more then a 580 to really drive that higher res screen good.

The Vive Pro will more than likely be more than $600 and with the state of graphics card prices, it looks like it would cost $1500~ or so to buy into that.

Maybe it's worth it to dive into the Rift now.

More than likely your GPU is still fine for the vive pro, because scaling.

It's honestly a very difficult choice.

None, but the vive's tracking ability seems far more useful than what the rift offers, it's certainly the one I would buy should it ever be $300 or less

Plus a higher resolution is a must for better VR, it's easily a better long term investment if you're into VR
2880 by 1600 pixels

I ended up picking up an Oculus Rift with a third sensor and I am very happy with it (Newegg had a promotion for $75 in credit too!).

The RX 580 really shred shreds through everything I've been playing at high/ultra settings.

I am actually waiting for some wall mounts to come in, but games like Robo Recall and Sprint Vector have been pretty perfect, and they really require room scale in order to play well, I just want the sensors out of the way.
