Alright, I'll have to admit that maybe I was a bit cheap and purchased third party batteries for my camera body. I now have several questions about the batteries and my minor concerns.

Firstly, is it detrimental to the health to the battery if I charge it even though it is 75% full?

Thats because that battery is my only LP-E6N battery I have with the other two being LP-E6 variants.

Since I have quite the event to photograph tomorrow, I don't really want to rely on a 3/4 full primary battery as the other two are jokes.

Also, are LP-E6 batteries really compatible with the newer generation EOS 80Ds? I've read many forums where people have said that they are but personally the batteries dont even last close to half as long as the N variants. I managed to get 350 images with a (third party) LP-E6, however I am up to 600 with the (genuine) LP-E6N and as mentioned earlier, I've managed to carve through only 25% leaving 75% battery capacity.

It seems that other prople have had quite positive experiences with thrid party LP-E6 batteries so I'm trying to determine if the battery or body is at fault.

(I used an optically stabilised lens with the LP-E6N, but I used a non IS lens with the third party to try to get them to last)

Lithium batteries are very resilient, your not going to hurt them recharging at 75%. but some research i have read  does suggests repeatedly letting a battery discharge less than 10% from full then recharging can have an effect on the life of the battery. so as a rule i always let my batteries drain below 90% to extend their life.

LP-E6N and LP-E6 are fully compatible with each other, the LP-E6N just has a slightly higher capacity and improved safety circuitry.

as for the 3rd party batteries just because they are marked as the same capacity(or higher) as the original canon ones it does not mean they are, i have never had a third party battery that works as well as an original. but i know the canon ones are expensive so if you are going to get third party batteries i would get branded ones from reputable companies. the ravpower or vivitar have good reviews.

Yeah it would most likely be this one time as by the next event I should be able to get my hands on decent batteries.

I personally haven't either but I've had a few which got unbelievably close which was why I kind of instinctively went for third party the instant I purchased the camera. I will reconsider/ be more careful now.

Thank you.

glad i could help. I went back to originals canon batteries after having a third party battery get so hot during charging it burnt my hand. but i did just order the ravpower set i found whilst looking for you, it was just too compelling for the price, good reviews and i've never had a problem with the ravpower battery bank i own.

Oh that's definitely not good, but thats the reason why I only use third party in grips so that if it goes south at least only a $30 grip is damaged and not a $1000+ camera. It seems like a very compelling option but since I'm in Australia well...yeah, self explanatory.

Yeah good call on the grip, i just took a look at your amazon its a baron wasteland(just like the country:P), the only battery on there i would be willing to put in my camera is the duracell one.

You know Australia is more than a desert, we have drop bears and odd things that jump.

Well considering the price of it I'd rather get a very highly reviewed betterbatt one, which costs around the same.

Thanks!
