Hi guys,

I am really getting frustrated with my current situation and would kindly ask for help on this.

I have a PC tablet (wacom mobile studio Pro) which is faulty and I have received a brand new replacement.

I created a "system image" of my existing computer on my external hard drive. I want to transfer this "image" on my new computer so that I don't have to go through the trouble of removing bloatware, settings etc.

The problem I have, once I am on the blue background screen > under advanced options > System image recovery - it easily recognizes the system image created, but on the next screen it gives me a exclamation mark with the fallowing message:

"To restore this computer, Windows needs to format the drive that the Windows Recovery Environment is currently running on. To continue with the restore, shut down this computer and boot it from a Windows installation disc or a system repair disc and then try the restore again"

My problem is that I don't have an actual CD drive in this computer, and I don't have a remote CD drive with usb cable. Does this mean I cannot restore my new PC from disk image if I don't have a CD drive?

Here is what I tried so far:

  • Windows on USB stick. I have a windows ISO file on USB stick connected to the computer - returns with the same message.
  • Tried to partition using Disk Management, a portion of existing SSD and copied ISO on to this partition, it recognises it on boot but still returns the same message.

I really look forward to some help here. I don't want to be setting up all the settings, removing, uninstalling etc., if I can just move my stuff to the new PC.

Thanks,

I am confused. You can't put the ISO file on a USB flash or disk partition. The ISO file needs to be extracted, and partition/drive made bootable.

Please use Windows Media Creation Tool found on Microsoft website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10

Click on "Download tool now". It will prepare your USB flash drive properly. All you'll need to do is tell your system to boot to it (and have the USB flash drive connected, obviously).

When you used the Windows on USB stick, did it boot from the USB drive successfully ?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes it booted fine, I got the purple background with language options etc. on the next slide I selected "repair your computer" and then I get the same message as mentioned above.

Hi Goodbytes,

Sorry for the confusion, that is exactly what I did.

Used the download link and went through the process to set up a bootable USB flash drive.
