I'm working on a scrap build, currently I've salvaged a well specd HP Elite 7500 MT with an i5 3570 and 16gb ram, it's got a 300W psu and a z75 express chipset. On to the posting issue, I plug it in ect. Push the power button then the fans rev up and stop 3 times before revving up and staying at a constant speed, I've got a dvi to vga adapter hooked up in the back and no GPU is currently installed. I've removed the ram and was given a beep error code telling me that the mobo is able to detect hardware, the constant fan speed tells me power isn't an issue (unless it's mobo capacitor related) there are no drives ect. Connected or powered. What else could be causing this problem? (also I've tried booting with half the ram with the same results)

####################  Ram: 8gb DDR4 2666MHz

####################  SSD: OEM 128gb M SATA

####################  HDD: Seagate Baracuda 1tb 5400RPM

Well I can tell you one thing, if the CPU fan stays at 100% the entire time, it's usually signaling a failed POST. You've reseated the RAM and cleared the CMOS correct?

Is the motherboard cleaned of dust? Did you try resetting CMOS? Did you inspect the socket for bend/broken pins? Do you have another 1155 CPU? Try a different PSU for the heck of it? Then I might start blaming the motherboard or try completely different RAM.

Yep, reset it using those really annoying pin covers

In the maintenance and service manual ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03550633)

It mentions flashing power led to interpret POST error codes

Is the power button flashing?

If so, how is it flashing specifically, in relation to timing and amount of flashes

The power LED stays white the whole time, it flashed Amber when I did a test with the ram out, also the speaker beeped

Kinda sounds like it posted to be honest, according to the description you've given me and the manual.

Do you have a gpu you can plug in and test with that, or another cable you can try?

I'm wondering if the video port is damaged or the cables are damaged.

It is possible that there is almost nothing wrong with it in terms of internal operation.

How ever, maybe the video output port (dvi or vga, what ever it is) might be damaged, and this might not actually affect the computer internally, but can still result in blank screen and give you the sense that the computer doesn't work.

I would try any gpu in it, and see if it magically works, if so, you got your answer.
