Looking at laptops again...

So towards the end of the year, I think I’d want to get a new laptop. Really only want it to be able to play tf2 better than an A10 9600P which Jungle Inferno kinda killed performance on it.

 

So I was wondering should Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 mobile APUs be enough for tf2? It looked like performance was a bit over gtx 940m(x) but I'm not entirely sure that maybe paying more for a laptop with like an mx150 and 8th gen i5 would be exactly worth it for mostly tf2.

Idea would be to keep it under $1000.

 

I know a lot can and will change in like 8+ months but I don't think laptops really change that much lol

TF2 isn't the most demanding game out there I've been told, you could probably play it on a Ryzen 5 or 7 APU.

Games like TF2 are pretty much what the Ryzen APUs are meant to run  They are good enough.

Oh yeah no doubt, although it's barely playable on my Bristol Ridge A10 (A10 9600P) from 2016.

Valve seems to do a good job at ruining performance in updates.

Wasn't entirely sure as I wasn't sure how much difference there was in IPC and GPU performance from Bristol Ridge... But if mobile Ryzen APUs are where it's at for games like TF2, then that's good to know. Because it sure is a damn shame that it's nearly a slide show on something that used to run it decently before.

Although it's sort of disappointing to see it in low settings and not being as good as I hoped. I could probably reasonably do 720p mid
Wished the Acer Swift 3 offered more ram, as I suspect the ram is soldered.

It's already MX150 performance. It's still an integrated graphics after all, not dedicated so the power draw is far more limited.

Yeah, I heard there was an issue with like getting it to go up to 25W which would help it a little more and I suppose more ram would be nice.

I'm guessing it's not taking a lot for video ram which could be the issue. I'd like to see if there'd be a way to get it to use 2GB for video ram so maybe it'd play a little nicer in tf2

No doubt for integrated graphics that video is pretty impressive.
