Hey guys, sorry if I'm digging up old topics but I'm fairly new to computer upgrades and builds. I built a gaming computer in 2010, but I am wondering what to do with my current build. I just bought a new corsair 650w rmi psu, an evga 128gb ssd and a new blue?WD 1tb hdd for upgrades so far.. BTW I have never OC'D any of it. My budget is not the greatest right now to do a complete upgrade to intel or new Ryzen. Also, a new gpu is out of the question due to really bad gpu prices right now. I've watched a ton of Linus's  vids but just not finding the info I need. Can I put an fx 8350 or 8370 in this?  Please heeeeelp!

My build-----------

Coolermaster mid atx case

msi 890fxa gd70 mobo

amd phenom 2 x6 1055t cpu

xfx ati Radeon 5770 1gb gpu

coolermaster v8 CPU cooler

2-120mm case fans

8gb gskill ddr3 2133 MHz ram- got it on the cheap

500gb WD caviar hdd

corsair 450w psu

Upgrade the graphics card, then the CPU once you have enough money.

What would be a good graphics card for this set up? Without getting bottlenecked too bad?

A GTX 970 max, you will still get bottlenecks, but it's sensless to buy low end stuff. You might also want to look into some R9 200 series GPUs

Your motherboard, the msi 890fxa gd70, is using socket AM3+. So you could slap a 8350 or 8370 in it.

But at first you should really upgrade the GPU. Second hand 970's are around 200 euros. But you could also look for a 1050ti.

Personally, I'd stick with the Phenom and look for a GPU. The FX series weren't really a big upgrade from the Phenom's and that 1055t should do just fine with a lower-mid range GPU. You could look for a used R9 280/290 or GTX 970. Something like a HD 7870 shouldn't be too expensive and would act as a good stop gap until GPU prices go down a bit. You could even look for something like a 780Ti. Prices shouldn't be too bad for them.

the FX chips have lower ICP than the Phenom you have in there right now, no reason to upgrade really so just OC it if the motherboard has an OK VRM and swap the GPU for something newer

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

I've found asus rog strix 1050ti 4gb for around 250 Canadian dollars through newegg. Seems like a legit card. Reviews seem alright, also found a fx 8370 for 174 canadian dollars as well. Would a new CPU make that much difference?

skip the 8370, not worth the price.
