Best RAID option for 4 1tb drives?

I have the option of getting 4x1tb hard drives, and I was wondering what RAID setup would be the best? I dont really know about RAID, or what I need for it, so if someone could help me with that, thanks :) 

 

 

I just want a mix of speed and performance, so RAID 5? Like I said I don't really know what I'm saying so all help is appreciated

Honestly, I recommend ZFS to everyone as it is truly amazing but if you're looking for a RAID I'd probably go with RAID 5.

Thanks, but what about the speed of RAID 5? Is it any slower than a single drive, or is there slightly faster options?

rai 5 or 0 if u want but there is a lot more risk with raid 0

I couldn't find a Linus video about ZFS..

I have 4x 3tb drives in raid 10, that's basically 2 drives in raid 0 then they are backed up in raid 1.  Great for speed and redundancy but it halves your total capacity

Do you actually need to use RAID? Do you have a good backup solution, I wouldn't even consider RAID unless you do, and even then, there's not too many situations where RAID is needed outside of business environments.

Hmm? What do you mean? I mean we dont really have any backups

Yeaa I don't think im going with 10 because halfing the total capacity is too much...
