Hi,

Recently, I've noticed that my GPU usage fluctuates to the point at where the game is unplayable.

This image from MSI Afterburner shows the usage - https://imgur.com/g1u09yp

When I alt tab out of the game, I noticed that things such as task manager and the settings menu and flickering or flashing.

This has only happened with PUBG and Fortnite so far out of all the games I have played. It does not happen with GTA V, Witcher 3 or Overwatch.

The drivers have been updated to the latest version and I have re-seated the GPU, cannot try another slot as it is mini itx.

The CPU is an i7 8700K and I have 16GB of 3000MHz RAM so I don't think there is a bottleneck anywhere.

Kind regards

Reinstalling windows is the quickest way to solve software issues.

Use DSR to set a game to 4k max settings and see what the usage looks like then

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I put the PC together a few days ago, Windows is clean. I'll try the DSR option as soon as and report back.

Everyone needs to really stop doing this. Telling people to reinstall their windows at the slightest snag. Stop. It.

@FluffyQuido Got any tabs open? It looks a bit like one of those browser miners. If you close the game when it does this, what's the idle usage like.

It is the fastest way to diagnose and solve any software issues if the info is vague and nothing seems to be working.

It goes back down to it's idle usage, around 5%.

No you don't diagnose shit by reinstalling windows.

So it doesn't fluctuate anymore? 5% though, is that completely idle without anything else running? Because it should be 0%.

Prolly best to do a clean install of driver. On windows 10?

Ran any benchmarks to ensure gpu is pegged at 100% without issue?

No more fluctuations no, just Edge and Steam open.

Could you please post more data, so CPU usage per core, RAM/VRAM usage, CPU Clockspeeds, Coreclocks/memclocks.

Sure you do, if the problem persists it was something you installed since putting on the new windows, or it may just be a hardware issue at that point.

It's the diagnostic equivalent of carpet bombing. It won't help you narrow down the problem and if it occurs again you're back to square one.

Average CPU usage is around 30%, some cores are at 50%, some at 10%. All cores are running at 4.6GHz. System memory usage is at 9GB and VRAM usage is at 3GB. GPU core clock is at a stable 1936MHz and memory clock at a stable 5005MHz.

I noticed that this time the game was running fine when I initially loaded into the map, after I changed one of the graphical settings, the problem started again.

Edit: I saw some Nvidia application attached to PUBG in the task manager, I closed it and the flashing of the task manager stopped. It seems like the GPU stuttering has also stopped. If I understand correctly, this came with GeForce Experience and must have opened when I opened that. I guess that was the isuue but I'll see what happens.

Uninstall that software, it's trash.
