Photoshop/minecraft build.

tlmills82

My sister wants a PC that will allow her to do some photoshop editing as well as play minecraft.  She doesn't play any other games, and uses photoshop (gimp) for crafty stuff.

I guess my question is how important would a graphics card be for something like this?  The budget is "As cheap as possible".  Building things like this are a bit out of my wheel house, I'm used to putting together full gaming machines.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Wait a few weeks for Ryzen with Vega comes out. $100 APU that you just put into an A320 board.

Well, she still wants decent performance for the price.  Just not looking to spend a fortune.

Since he's considering a GPU, I assumed "as cheap as possible without being completely useless". The other option would be something like a used Optiplex and something like a 750 Ti. But with Ryzen/Vega being so competitively priced, he might as well, as it'll allow for upgrades in the future, and it'll perform better.

Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics, so it won't output anything. The 2200G and 2400G, which will launch in about a week, will. It'll probably perform similarly to the GT 1030/750Ti.

Minecraft and photoshop require next to nothing, just upgrade a pc you already have, and drop in a low power gpu like a 730 all you’ll need is like 4 gb’s of ram

Heres some good specs for minecraft and photoshop (these specs are what my ubuntu home server has):

4GB ram

Core 2 Duo E8400 (you can use a quad q6600 if you're uncomfortable with using a dual core)

Radeon HD 6350 (old card but pretty beasty, I can get 100fps highest settings with optifine on mc)

Small HDD (or SSD), 250GB if on a serious budget, 500GB if you want a little more headroom.

Any supported version of windows (or unsupported if you're not scared of those l33t hax0rs).

I have 2 I came up with that should run it I assume?  Is it better to go with the Quad APU or the dual core with a standalone 2gb graphics card?
