I recently had my roommate complain about his PC not booting

Upon troubleshooting I found the following

- broken capacitors

- bent CPU socket

previously he was complaining of low FPS in games.....wonder why

He had a Devils Canyon 4790K....but since z97 Motherboards are roughly the same as z270....its time for him to upgrade to an i5 8600k.....now he has a faster CPU then my 7700K.....by 11 points in cinebench

nope....although I really don't get how a cpu socket with that many bent pins worked

Luck that all the pins needed to boot were contacting correctly. You might be missing pcie lanes, memory channels, etc

CPU: Ryzen 1700@3.9ghz; GPU: EVGA 560 Ti 1gb; RAM: 16gb 2x8 Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000; PCPP: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b3xzzM

... why is this not a status update then? becuase its not a need help, its not a build log, its not planning its not discussion of anything either

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

meh he wanted coffee lake, and my hand eye co-ordination is not that good

Did you say that you installed a coffeelake chip into a z97 motherboard or am I misunderstanding you?

That's even possible?

There's no way in hell that would work.

I must be missing something.

since z97 is lga1150 and CL is 1151....that wouldn't work

but to replace the board with a z97, would be roughly the same price as a new CL board, so that's the route we went
