Weird drop of GPU perf

2 minutes ago, Spakes said:

CPU was only undervolted, it's a GPU that was overclocked. But resetting CPU VCore and GPU Overclocking didn't do anything, too.

Oh, shit is this laptop plugged into a  power outlet or are you running on battery power?

because it's normal for a laptop to show low performance like you're describing when it's on battery power.

With that sentence structure? Hell no. Learn to paragraph please. Unless that's not taught in Russian schools?

Yeah, Russian schools mostly suck at teaching English, so sorry for that. Self-learner here.

If new driver sucks, use old one, ez.

Old driver does not help, I told you that. Same problem appears.

Nobody actually uses Furmark anymore for proper stress tests. Easier to use something more realistic, like TimeSpy stress test.

That was done only for cooling test.

Shit, honestly,

start up that warranty process now.

They'll give you some better troubleshooting steps than we can before they agree to replace it.

Again, don't tell them what you did to it with the overclock.

These guys look for any reason to blame the user for the problem so that they don't have to replace the thing. Don't give them one.

I'm not sure that is going to be a case. Again, it was bought from USA. New details: I bought this laptop from eBay, it was refurbished by MSI, sent to Russia. Well, it might be, that MSI Russia will give some tips, but again, I'm not sure it's going to work.

Of course, laptop was plugged into a power outlet, with original 180 W charger from MSI (well, techically, from Delta Electronics, but it came with laptop, so...).

Ok, 8937 in Fire Strike, 10128 - Graphics score (less than should be).

P. S. GPU was running on 1750-1850 MHz on graphics and combined test and 2050 MHz on Physics test.

Try disabling the intel HD graphics.

Looks like you installed the VGA driver for the CPU's onboard graphics. You don't want that.

Yea, nevermind. I doubt the warranty transfers after buying it used.

Couldn't hurt to try though I guess.

Why? Does HD 530 really affect perfomance? I mean, it was ok before, why would it interfere now?

well, if it was okay before, that's probably not the cause of your issues, but everyone always recommends to not install that if you have a dedicated GPU like you do because some games will be stupid and will default to that instead of your nice graphics card.

I want to try VBIOS reflash, if i will be able to find one (that will be one hell of a ride, imo, another night w/o sleep, yay).

Huh, that's interesting... GTX 1060 only uses 1 PCI-E 3.0 lane... That's weird... I'll see is there something in MoBo BIOS that can help.

UPD: No, not a thing...

Pretty much every single person in the PC space that you could possibly talk to will recommend not installing your VGA driver when you have a dedicated graphics card. This is something that is unanimous.

Fore warning, a failed bios update will brick the card completely and turn it into a paper weight. Go by the model number if you decide to do this NOT just the card name. There are some extremely similarly named cards so don't take a chance on that.

I'm not sure that will help my GTX 1060 use 8 PCI-E lanes instead of 1. So I'll probably go with BIOS (not VBIOS) flash with the same FW now. And I didn't see VBIOS for my laptop. But thanks for a reminder.

Here's a thread on this issue that may help:

laptops tend to use igpu for lower power usage when on battery and not doing anything graphically intensive, and then ramp up the gpu when they need it, so having both is good for a laptop

Interesting. I did not know that.

Well, I haven't bought a laptop since like the early 2000's so I guess I missed the boat on that information :P

Alright, flashing fresh BIOS didn't help... Still x1 PCI-E 3.0.

I don't want to reinstall Windows, but looks like the next scariest thing would be h/w problem, which would be bad (I need my laptop), so fingers crossed...
