What FPS are you getting and im which game? You could ne facing a bottleneck here since i5 7600k is not up on par with a GTX 1080.

I play: GTA, ARK, WILDLANDS OVERWATCH, ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE,.

Around the 40 fps some times it 's 80+ but mostly between 40 and 60. Which is not normal for a 1080 I guess

The only reason you might be getting those low fps might be because of
1. bottlenecking

or

2. you have not updated your drivers in the nvidia geforce experience app

Try configuring stuff in the nvidia control panel too, like the power management mode or the 3d render settings ( performance, balanced or quality )

Drivers are up to date power is set to maximal performance and what settings could I further adjust?

Check your temperatures and clock speeds using msi afterburner/rivatuner during gameplay. For reference, with settings mostly maxed, I get around 100fps in GTA V @ 1080p with a GTX1060 6GB.

How did you came up to this statement? Since when that i5 bottlenecks a 1080 so badly that you'd get low FPS in the games he mentioned?

No, it is not normal. As NelizMastr said, check the temperatures you get during playing. Also, if possible could you install CAM software from NZXT to check the usage as well.

This is funny as lately a lot of people had bad experience with their GTX 1080, including myself. I Started to get FPS dips constantly. Didn't happened before. Didn't had time to investigate but my temperatures are in check. usage kind of jumps around - from no more that 80% now to 90-98%.

A sub 4 ghz quad core could easily bottleneck something like a 1080, especially if there are more background tasks running.

OP, what specific game settings are you using? What cpu usage like while gaming?

That would make it worse since you're basically running at a higher res

Running the highest settings in most games

Check CPU usage while gaming. If it's in the high 80s to 90s, it's likely a CPU bottleneck.

Well actually its most of the time my GPU running in the 80 - 90s. Like it did today with TESO (elder scrolls  online) and than 'my cpu is between 50% -  70%. And than my GPU also returns to 50% - 70%.....?
